Dear Irrigation Scientists,

We would like to invite you to attend the forthcoming irrigation symposium on horticultural crops.The science of irrigation currently finds itself in a critical situation.
Questions relating to water-fed agriculture present more and more challenges as the human population continues to increase and drought affects more and more areas and with increasing frequency. Irrigation is now crucial for food production and must be carried out with less and less available water. We have therefore decided to organise the next ISHS symposium, sponsored by the Commission of Irrigation and Plant Water Relations, with the idea to discuss the different possibilities for improving the efficiency of irrigation systems, considering questions relating to both, management and plant physiology at the same time. In this meeting will make a special effort to promote the exchange of ideas, to foster interaction between scientists and to stimulate open discussion during the oral sessions.

The symposium will be held in Lleida, Spain, from June 8^th to June 11^th, 2015. It will bring together scientists who are working on the irrigation of horticultural plants to discuss the progress which has recently been made in this field and to map out the work to be done during the next decade.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The Organizing Committee invites you to submit the abstracts for oral or poster presentations on the following topics (sessions):

Modeling water transport in SPAC in relation to irrigation management
Soil and plant water stress assessment
Remote sensing applications to irrigation
Drought management
Salinity and irrigation in the age of desalination
Vineyard irrigation in relation to grape and wine quality

Irrigation herbaceous and vegetable crops
Social and Geostrategic constraints of irrigation

As the aim of the symposium is to encourage greater participation by those who attend the event, we have decided that the oral presentations will be chosen according to the following criteria:

Scientific rigour
The novelty of the concepts presented
Challenging and provocative approaches

It could be a good idea to add a few words in the abstract that explain how the authors think their presentations could help to encourage questions and participation.

Guidelines for submission of abstracts

English is the official language of submission of abstracts

Only abstracts received through the web symposium will be accepted (no fax, no email)

Abstracts submitted must be original work (not presented in another form in other symposia)

The unique format of abstract submission is Microsoft Word, and according to the following rules:

Maximum 250 words
Font exclusively: Times New Roman
Alignment: Left
Title: boldface in 14 points tipe
Name of Authors (without titles), affiliation, address, keywords, tables....should be 12 points tipe
The text of the abstract, in a single paragraph, 12 points tipe
The document must not contain tables, graphs or figures.

Two abstract submissions are permitted however please be aware that a maximum of one oral presentation and one poster presentation will be assigned per registered delegate for successful applicants. You will be required to complete the theme, author, details etc for each abstract before submitting your next one.

At least one author will be available to present the abstract if selected for the program. The authors will immediately notify the Technical Secretariat if they are unable to present an abstract or if the presenting author is changed. Please note that each presenter can still only present one oral and one poster. The organisers reserve the right to remove a presentation from the program.

Oral Presenter Guidelines

If you are accepted to give an oral presentation at Irrig_ISHS2015, you will be allocated a total of 15 minutes (including question and answer time)

Poster Presenter Guidelines

Posters have to be printed and taken to the Symposium by participants

The poster must be written in English

The mounting facilities will be available at poster venue

Poster size should be maximum 120 cm (height) × 80 cm (width)

Poster presenters (or at least one of the authors) should be present by the poster for presentation (5 minutes) and discussion with participants during the scheduled session time

The unique way to submit a full length manuscript is by using the following link provided in this website. Papers delivered on hand or by other ways will not be considered as submitted.

The manuscripts will be reviewed by the Editors and members of the Editorial Board. Only those papers judged suitable for publication following authors’ consideration of reviewer suggestions will appear in the corresponding volume of Acta Horticulturae

ACTA HORTICULTURAE AUTHORS GUIDE

Preparing a Paper for publication in Acta Horticulturae®

You are about to prepare an article to be presented at an ISHS Symposium. Taking into account the following instructions will make the publication of your paper in Acta Horticulturae easier. Remember that only papers presented at ISHS Symposia are published in Acta Horticulturae after being accepted, reviewed and edited by the editorial board of the Symposium/Meeting involved. This is also why you should submit your contribution directly to the Convener of the Symposium you will attend and NOT to the ISHS Secretariat. Papers should be submitted both as hard copy (printout on paper to: iP congressos - C/ Cardenal Cisneros, 28 - (Spain)) AND electronically (in this web). In the event of differences between the printout and the electronic copy, your printout will be used as reference.

Manuscripts should be as concise as possible in order to reduce to a minimum the number of pages of Acta Horticulturae. As a general rule the maximum recommended length of an invited paper is 10-12 pages and of a submitted oral paper or poster is 6-8 pages, including figures and tables.
